Thermal insulation steel pipes are generally multi-layered piping systems designed to minimize heat loss, maintain fluid temperatures, and protect infrastructure in district heating, HVAC, and industrial processes.
Pre-insulated steel pipe generally consists of three primary layers.
- The steel pipe: can be carbon steel pipe in seamless and welded, low-alloy carbon steel, low-temperature carbon steel pipe, galvanized steel pipe, etc.
- Thermal insulation layer: A core layer of highly effective insulating material that can protect temperature loss. Commonly used material is rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) for district heating, or mineral wool and fiber glass for higher-temperature industrial applications.
- Outer casing/jacket: A protective, waterproof shell-generally HDPE or sheet metal which can shield the insulation from external moisture, soil stress and mechanical wear.
Thermal insulated steel pipe has many applications and advantages:
District heating& cooling: To transfer hot water or chilled water to buildings, heat loss is limited to just 25% of what traditional un-insulated piping.
Oil&Gas pipelines: to maintain the flow viscosity of crude oil and assist in the conversion of natural gas.
Chemical and industrial processing: to keep the fluids within precise temperature ranges (200ºC ~700ºC) to ensure safety and process efficiency.
