The zinc coating can be 220g/m2 to 700g/m2 (30µm to 100µm).
Relevant standard and requirements for hot-dip galvanized pipe
Standard Standard description Requirements for hot dipped galvanizing GB/T3091 Welded steel pipes for low pressure fluid delivery(ERW, SAWL, SAWH) Zinc coating total weight on internal and external surface should not be less than 500g/m2, tested by annex B, and one test value can be lower than 500g/m2, but cannot be lower than 480g/m2
The uniformity of zinc coating tested as Annex C, the specimen should be immersed five times in a solution of copper sulfate and examined no any adherent red deposits of metallic copper on the zinc coating.
Adherence of the zinc coating: for pipe OD60.3MM and smaller, adhesive strength is necessary. Bending dia. is 8 times of OD with bending angle 90º, no flaking
For pipe bigger than 60.3mm, can test by flattening, with specimen length not less than 64mm, and the distance between the two parallel plates comes to 3/4 of OD, no flaking of zinc coating.
The zinc coating shall be smooth and reasonably uniform in thickness.
Zinc coating should be free from uncoated areas, blisters, flux deposits, dross inclusions and other types of projections that would interfere with the intended use of the pipe. But minor roughness that does not interfere with the intended use of the pipe should not be grounds for rejection.
GB/T13793 Steel pipes with a longitudinal electric resistance weld. Zinc weight: Class A: ≥500g/m2; Class B: ≥400g/m2; Class C: ≥300g/m2.
Class C should be adopted unless otherwise specified by purchaser.
ASTM A53 Pipe, steel, black and hot-dipped, zinc-coated, welded and seamless (type F, type E, type S) Zinc weight: not less than 0.55kg/m2 as determined from the average results of two specimens, and not less than 0.49kg/m2 for each of these specimens.
Each specimen shall have not less than 0.40kg/m2 of zinc coating on each surface.
ASTM A153 Zinc coating (hot-dip) on iron and steel hardware Class of material: B-Rolled, pressed and forged articles:
B.1 thickness ≥4.76mm and length over 381mm: average of specimens: min. 610g/m2; any individual specimen: min.550g/m2.
B.2 thickness<4.76mm, and length﹥381mm- average of specimens: min. 458g/m2; any individual specimen: min.381g/m2.
ASTM A795 Black and hot-dipped zinc-coated (galvanized) welded and SMLS steel pipe for fire protection use Weight of zinc coating: not be less than 0.46kg/m2 as determined from the average of two specimens and not less than 0.40kg/m2 for either of the specimens.
Test specimen approx. 102mm in length.
If flattening tests are made on galvanized samples, any flaking or cracking of the galvanized coating shall not be cause for rejection.
BS1387 Screwed and socket steel tubes and tubulars and for plain end steel tubes suitable for welding or for screwing to bs21 pipe threads (ERW) Zinc coating shall be complete and uniform.
Tubes to be screwed shall be hot-dip zinc coated before screwing.
One tue per batch of 500 shall be tested as Appendix C.( copper sulphate test)
JIS G3442 Galvanized steel pipes for ordinary piping Zinc coating weight shall be not less than 600g/m2 in average per lot and not less than 550g/m2 per pipe.
Uniformity test: the end point shall not be reached even after 6 immersions for the pipe and 5 immersions for the socket.
The pipe shall endure not less than 100 minutes before the evolution of bubbles ceases in the alkali test
The pipe of DN50A (2’’) and smaller, when subjected to bending test, shall be free from peelings of the zinc coating.
JIS G3452 Carbon steel pipes for ordinary piping Uniformity of zinc coating: Galvanized pipes shall be tested by 11.6 and five immersions in the copper sulfate, the pipe shall not show a fixed deposit of zinc even after the successive immersing operations.
